Hello Young One,
I see you have come to find out the history of our world. (Old man laughs.) That is an interesting story... Not sure really how to explain this to you, but I will tell you what I know. Two hundred years ago was the time of the forgetting. Now don't you start thinking we all got drunk and forgot, just because my past time is doing that now a days. This was a time were everyone here and possibly every where, all forgot their personal histories. As it was told to me, people just woke up knowing the common skills they had before, but as for names or what they did before falling down? That was all a blank.
You roll those eyes at me again and I will stop telling you this. Darn young-in. Where was I? Oh, yeah.
Now people called this the forgetting soon enough, but as for what they found? That, I hear, was an eerie sight. There were great piles of books burning in the city streets. Statues and murals were smashed and works of art destroyed in many diverse ways. Some one, or possibly some thing did not want us to remember what happened and it was pretty easy to see I hear. As our people soon collected together, we looked across the gathering. To our amazed eyes, we found enough people to fill a third of the city. You don't have to tell me that is strange, why do you think we only use a small amount of the city any more?
As I was saying before you tried to interrupt again. The city was in a partial ruin but it was fresh. The damage they found had happened possibly with in the day of the time they awoke. Buildings still burned and fresh blood was found, but any bodies the blood belonged too was missing. I am sure several people wanted to call to their gods, but with out any knowledge, who would they call too?
Stop moving so much, or I will nail you to the floor. You never know when this information might save your life, plus you will be leaving soon enough. As I was trying to get into, with out gods many people felt lost. The few statues that survived the razing must have survived due to divine might. So our people started to pray to those new gods, since all the names were erased we created our own. It seems to have worked out fine since they have yet to smite us. Gladly we are starting to see more of the magical might of our gods now in the religious men that follow their gods path.
No one knows why, but the reason why we are so diverse in race, is for the fact that we all woke up together. If you can not remember who you hate, isn't a little pointless to fight each other? On top of that, we had to do our best to survive those first hundred years. No crops were planted that first year, and no one truly knew what was good to eat or not. There were many wonders here that we now take for granted. Yes, much like that fountain in front of our main hall that you pissed in when you were a little whipper snapper. There were things like that, and to us they were strange, possibly dangerous, and new. We have yet to figure out how they work exactly, but given time, I know we will get to it.
I know you only have a few days before your party, but I want to warn you. For the last hundred years we have been sending parties like your self out those front gates to try to find out about the world around us. The only one that ever came back was that old coot Jeramie. Is he an old fart or what, but that dwarf was always a tough fighter. Even tougher to be around before he learned to bathe. Thats part of the reasoning behind your party. We want you to have a big blast before exploring the vast forests that surround our fair city. Just remember, you are the best of us. If anything tries to eat you out there, remember what I always say. "If something large eats me, at least I will have enough room to drink my ale in it's gullet." (Laughing.)
Ok, now be on your way now before I start pissing my pants. I'm an old man with an even older bladder. Just... Good luck out there, ok?
