Action Points? Good or Bad?

Basically I am asking people this question because we want this to be a fun, action based and exploratory type campaign. What is truly out there? What will we find? It is also something that might be needed since players will not know where close cities will be (or possibly depending on the adventure) and this would give them one advantage to stay alive.

Why use action points when we can go so much further?

We could create an entire sub-system like action points that represents the suppressed power in some people.

That is the way to go.
